Webinar: Manager vs. Leader: Cultivating Your Individual Power Regardless of Title

Are you a leader or a manager?

Both terms are used synonymously yet each serves a different purpose. Being good in one role does not necessarily mean you are successful in the other. While managers are designated by a title, leaders exist without a formal position. What are you doing to cultivate your power as a leader? How open are you to being seen as a leader? Join us for an hour-long webinar to learn the differences between leadership and management, discuss the skills needed to succeed in both roles and how to develop as a leader regardless of the title you have by focusing on your personal power.

Join Si Tú Quieres Co-Founders Librada Estrada and Ana Polanco for a 60-minute webinar on leadership. Come equipped with questions because we've got answers!

Register before space runs out: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1924765847096622081

Presented by the CHCI Alumni Association. Sponsored by State Farm.

Webinar: Strategies and Tools for Negotiating Your Best Promotion Yet

What if you could ask for and get everything you want in your next promotion or negotiation?

Sometimes we shy away from asking for all the things we want out of our next promotion. Negotiations fail when we aim to low and miss the opportunity as a conflict instead of a collaboration. Join us for sixty-minute webinar and discover the common misconceptions about negotiations and how our own limiting beliefs get in the way of success. Learn about new ways and tools to communicate your message effectively, position yourself as a relationship builder and ultimately reach your best promotion yet.

Join Si Tú Quieres Co-Founders Ana Polanco and Librada Estrada for a 60-minute webinar on how to become the best negotiator. Come equipped with questions because we've got answers!

Alumni in the KNOW

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY | ALUMNI IN THE KNOW SERIES

The AU Alumni Association's distinguished alumni speaker series, Alumni in the KNOW, incorporates a unique opportunity to explore the professional paths of AU's decorated and accomplished alumni, stimulates career development interest in future alumni, and connects prominent alumni with the AU community.

Whether it’s earned, bestowed or taken, the discussion on leadership begs the question who is a leader? What does it mean to lead and how do we act upon on our leadership with authenticity? What power do we have and how do we manage it?

The AU Alumni Association is pleased to present alumna Ana Polanco, SPA/BA '98 and Librada Estrada, Co-Founders of Si Tú Quieres, for a conversation on the implications of leadership and the management of power for yourself and for others.

CHCI PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP TRACK

CONGRESSIONAL HISPANIC CAUCUS INSTITUTE

2015 PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP TRACK

October 6, 2015 | 9:00am – 5:00pm | Walter E. Washington Convention Center | Washington, D.C.

Enhancing your Emotional Intelligence (EQ) to Increase Your Success:Emotional Intelligence, or EQ, is one of the greatest assets leaders can cultivate to become more effective at problem solving, team building and resolving conflicts. EQ is having the ability to identify your emotions, determine their influence on you, express them appropriately and manage your behavior to achieve a positive outcome. Authentic leaders learn to manage their emotions and cultivate relationships with others to produce positive results.

Cultivating Courageous Conversations to Become Authentic Leaders:We all feel varying degrees of hesitancy to have courageous conversations at work, in the board room and even at home. We put these conversations off, hoping the problem will go away. Finding the courage to clearly and authentically communicate our needs with allies or adversaries is key to our performance. Learning to engage in courageous conversations makes us more authentic leaders and effective negotiators.

The CHCI Professional Leadership Track is brought to you by the CHCI Alumni Association with the support of State Farm®.

Holiday Inn Baltimore - Inner Harbor | Baltimore, MD | August 7-9, 2015

The Secret to Cultivating Work-Life Balance at Any Stage of Life:There are constant demands to do and be more from family, partners, friends and society. Constant “lean in” messages may leave us with the impression that we can and must do it all to be successful. Is balance the answer to achieving what we desire? Part of the answer lies in slowing down long enough to reclaim your personal power to achieve a more mindful and fulfilling life. By the end of this session, Hermanas will examine the reality and myth of work-life balance, learn a strategy to identify your priorities and share sustainable tools to maintain balance at any stage of life.

Finding the Courage to Communicate Authentically: Learning to have courageous conversations is key to building and maintaining successful relationships. Courageous conversations give us an opportunity to choose to express our emotions in a healthy, direct and authentic way. By the end of this session, Hermanas will understand what a courageous conversation is, explore a deeper level of listening and feedback, and practice the steps to having a courageous conversation that they can use in any aspect of their lives.
